Corporate Engineering Analysis
Tool Box
A major American heavy duty engine manufacturer embarked
on a campaign to standardize on corporate engineering
analysis tools. Productivity gains of up to 90% were realized
through use of automated analysis routines leveraging
National Instruments DIAdem. A standard corporate taxonomy
was implemented allowing easy selection of datasets across
laboratories. V I Engineering architected a flexible environment
which provides automated analysis and reporting and also
interactive analysis for the power user. Standardization
of analysis algorithms and procedures allowed Cummins
to meet their goal of institutionalizing knowledge.
The DIAdem Tool Box was developed out of a corporate
initiative to standardize on using DIAdem as the tool
for data analysis across its design technical centers
and laboratories globally. Engineers from test and design
centers across the corporation utilize a DIAdem environment
modified to contain various proprietary models and algorithms
for analysis. Algorithm configuration management is used.
DIAdem specific analysis algorithms as well as those developed
in MatLab and C++ are integrated into the toolbox. Users
are encouraged to add new extensions to the Toolbox so
best practices across the enterprise can be captured.
V I Engineering developed the original specification
and architecture and subsequently implemented the DIAdem
Tool Box. V I Engineering is currently involved in developing
new features for the toolbox and acts as a librarian to
maintain and update the toolbox.
